Media often goes beyond the the line while covering some event and they even forget general ethics and etiquettes in the process. As per the report published on ENCA The same happened in a news bulleting of SABC, where the channel quotes Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma as President Zuma’s Ex wife not ANC NEC member Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. Though, later the channel Apologized for the same and took full responsibilities.
As per the statement released by the News channel, it’s been said that “In early August this year, when Dr Dlamini-Zuma’s name was spelled incorrectly, the SABC apologized and regarded this to be a human error”. The channel accepted, “More recently, one of our news headlines referred her as an ex-wife, rather than using her name”. This was wrong a woman like this. The directors of the SABC have instructed news management to investigate the matter thoroughly and urgently in order to get to the bottom of it and ensure that the SABC remains non-partisan”.
Keeping aside all the things it is very clear and accepted that Dlamini-Zuma is one of the strongest contenders to take over the ANC presidency from her former husband President Jacob Zuma at the party’s elective conference in December. She is also well supported by ANCWL national leadership. This is the one reason that the African National Congress Women’s League has therefore thrashed SABC, saying it had noted “with disgust” that the SABC TV news had “degenerated into being a proponent of patriarchy and cheerleaders of male chauvinism”.
In the words of ANCWL secretary general Meokgo Matuba, “SABC TV news had lately been labeling Dlamini-Zuma as “Mini-Zuma” and “Zuma ex-wife”. Dlamini-Zuma was a medical doctor, had served as the first female chairperson of the African Union, was former home affairs, foreign affairs, and health minister, and currently an MP in the National Assembly”.
